Yeah, this is ridiculous. It's been telling me the servers are down for a
long time as well.
After lots of searching I found a "live chat" support link. That was a joke
- I talked to some person that kept referring me to different help links, and
then told me he couldn't help me.
So then, I found a number that I called for Microsoft Reader support. This
was an even bigger joke. First, I went through their automated computer
help, and eventually said "operator" to just talk to a person. Luckily that
got me to a human, however it was a woman I could barely understand. After
much deliberation she connected me to the "right guy" that could help me. I
could literally not understand a word this guy was saying, but eventually
realized he was able to help me activate Windows, not activate Microsoft
Reader. Alright, so he connected me back to other support and I got
disconnected in the process.
Now, I called back the original number and explained everything to another
guy - he connected me to a woman that would be able to help me. While having
difficulty understanding this woman, she was trying to walk me through the
process of activating Reader, she couldn't comprehend that the servers were
down. So, eventually after she couldn't help me, she made me install some
software onto my computer so that she could control it remotely and fix it.
I wasn't happy about this, but I thought I would give it a shot. Over the
next 30 minutes, she managed to (very slowly and clumsily) go through the
process of activating Reader - after which she concluded that "the servers
are down" (exactly what I told her and the 4 people before her). She said
she can't do anything for me because the servers are down - I asked when they
will be back up - 5 minutes later she figures out she doesn't know when the
servers will be back up.
So, good luck to all of you, that like me, have bought protected .lit books
and are waiting to be able to read those books.
