I have already tried several times, each time when I click Activate, it's
successful, it gives me the
"Activation components have been successfully downloaded to your computer
and are being installed.”
message, however when I try to purchase an ebook it tells me I have no
activated my reader and need to do so in order to buy an ebook.

It says "are being installed". That is not the same as "have been
successfully installed". It sounds as though the activation components are
being downloaded but not placed in the correct place. What OS are you using?
If Vista, did you follow the instructions in the MS FAQ about having to run
IE using the administrator account?

I don't know if this is related but I have downloaded Microsoft Reader for
Pocket PC and installed it to my iPaq hw6945 with Mobile 5.

I run the activation on the web page as I suspect Aja has done and it says
it was successful but when I run the reader it says it is not activated on
my iPaq. I cannot open free eBooks from Baen Free Library and get an error
“File cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate,
or one of it’s components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or
restore this file.”

I have reported this to the Baen Librarian but no response yet.

The eBooks work fine with the desktop reader.

Any clues as to what is wrong?

Is the successful activation on a PC? The iPaq needs to be activated itself,
and if you dig through other messages in this group you'll find that often
PDAs are not being shipped with OEMInfo.xml file required for activation.
Check the HP site for patches for your iPaq, there should be one to allow MS
Reader to be activated.

Edwin,

Are you tapping on the book to open the book? If so this is a known issue
with the current Reader. You can repair this in one of the following ways:

1. Install an application like Resco Explorer and when you tap on the file
the registry will be repaired for you by answering a series of questions.
2. You can edit the PPC registry via a 3rd party registry tool and edit
these entries -

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\eBook\shell\Open\Command\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\eBookEBO\shell\Open\Command\

Inside the string value you will need to add quotes around the path to
msreader.exe but NOT %1

If this does not resolve your issue please reply back and I will do my best
to assist you in resolving this issue.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

Fix did not work on a unit I'm trying to get to activate, with similar
issues. JasJar/WM5, installed to SD Card.

"" patched x2 into reg still not activating.
( ie"\Storage Card\.....\msreader.exe" %1

Been looking at similar threads, one person advises MS Reader would only
install & Activate on his Main RAM, & never on his SD Card.

I'm not keen to kill valuable RAM space with such an app. it's far too finite!

Anyone able to get this fix to work on SD Card?

I saw this question and have found no resolution. I have the exact same
issue with my Axim X51 and the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. Does
anyone have an answer for this. I am at my wits end.
Thanks KSweet

Are you trying to download eBooks direct to the Axim? If so, that's your
problem - you need to download to a PC, and then use ActiveSync to transfer
to the Axim. See http://www.microsoft.com/reader/info/tips/transferringppc.mspx
for more details.

All,

There are several situations that could be applicable here.

1. You are running Windows Vista on the PC. If so you need to elevate the
browser permissions. For instructions on how to do this please go here -
http://das.microsoft.com/activate/en-us/activatefaq.asp#fa_vista. This is
true regardless of whether or not you are activating your PC or your PPC.

2. If you are activating your Pocket PC make sure that you are installing
your activation to your default or device location. Do not install the
activation to your SD card as the Reader will not recognize it.

If it isn't either one of these please reply back and I will do my best to
assist you further.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

Thanks for your response.
None of these situations applies to me. Thanks for your response.
I am sorry to say that with all of the investigating I did on your site and
on the web I was unable to correct the problem. I have since installed
another reader and purchased my books with no problems.
Thanks again.
