Got OEMinfo.xml from msreadergirl - Can't copy over to TREO - How?

I've gotten my OEMinfo.xml from msreadergirl. I tried to copy it over to my
TREO750's Windows folder, but it won't let me do it. I get this error
message:

“Cannot copy oeminfo: access denied.
Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set
to read only, and that you have permission to copy this file type.”

My Windows folder already has OEMinfo.xml in it, and I;ve already
uninstalled MS Reader from my TREO. Her instruction indicate that I email
her if I cannot copy it over. I have emailed her, but I am anxious to get
this resolved. I thought I'd see if anyone here has figured this out.

Thanks,
Jerold

Thanks for the reply!!!

AOL is horrible. It must be their servers bouncing. Can you send any
further replies to ***@optonline.net?

I already copied onto a different folder on the Treo and then tried copying
it over to the Windows Folder with the same result.

1. Am I supposed to have MS Reader installed prior to replacing the
OEMinfo.XML file?
2. Should there be an OEMinfo.xml file if MS reader is not installed on the
Treo?
3. I also have an Ipaq 2795 PDA that I have a successful
installation/activation of MS Reader. Since MS Reader for PPC is installed
via the desktop, if I go into Avtivesync and uninstall MS Reader from the
Treo, how will it affect the Ipaq PDA installation? I don’t want to have 2
bad installations of MS Reader.

I’ll give it another try.

Thanks,
Jerold

When you are copying it from a different folder to the Windows directory are
you using your PC or are you doing this on the device. The copy must be
done on the device itself for some models.

1. No you should copy this file over BEFORE you install MS Reader AND soft
reset your device once you have copied the file. If you don't perform the
soft reset the file will no register properly and cause issues like the
dreaded "Update your activation.... " message or some very unpleasant
crashing when you attempt to open a protected title.

2. The OEMInfo.xml file should be on the device when you receive it from
the factory. This is not a file that the Reader installs, just one that it
uses.

3. I would leave your HP out of the equation for now (remove from cradle or
connection until you are finished). As long as both devices are using the
same version of Reader (2.4.1) you should be fine once you have the Treo
working to sync to both.

I got your last message while at work with no activesync installed on my
work PC. I did have that copy of the file with me though. I emailed it to
myself so I can have it on the Treo and saved it to my SD card. I wanted to
just copy/paste it into the Treo Windows folder, but I couldn't couldn't find
an empty space in the windows folder on the Treo to activate the paste
command.

Is there a way to do this by just using the Treo when there is no empty
space to click on?

Update:

I figured out how to Paste it into the Windows folder (Keyword= HOW). When
I clicked paste, and agreed to replace the original OEMinfo file, I get this
error message from the TREO:

Cannot copy 'oeminfo': access denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protectd and the file is not
currently in use.

1. I cannot any properties on the existing file to make it replaceable.
2. I don't know if the OEMinfo file is in use or not by another program.
3. Is there any way to get this to copy over and replace the existing file?
4. What other programs use OEMinfo? I have stopped all running programs. I
don't know if there is some kind of safe mode on the Treo or WM5 for that
matter so whatever is using OEMinfo doesn't load.

If you already have a copy of the OEMInfo.xml file on your device we should
likely use it instead of mine. Since you aren't missing the file after all
let's try some other steps.

There are 3 reasons why this error is present.

1. The OEMinfo.xml file is not present in the \windows directory
2. The udhid.dll file is not present in the \windows directory (which
should not happen if you are indeed installing 2.4.1)
3. You have a cached install of the 2.4 or earlier Reader.

The following instructions will check for each of those. Please give the
following a try:

Go to Start | Settings | System Tab | Remove Programs. Select Microsoft
Reader and tap on "Remove"

<NOTE: If you can't remove these files via this method on your device:

On your device please go to My Device\Windows\AppMgr and remove any folders
named Microsoft Reader
On your device please go to where your Microsoft Reader is installed and
delete the entire folder
On your device please go to the \windows directory and delete udhid.dll
On your device please delete your annotations folder and any hidden files
named litpath.lpt
Soft Reset your device, DO NOT PLACE IN CRADLE

On your PC please go to Start | Control Panel | Add/remove programs and
select "Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC" and uninstall it
On your PC please go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync and remove the
folder Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC
On your PC please go to you device activesync folder (usually named
something like "MyDevice_ MyDocuments" and lives on your desktop) and delete
your annotations folder, any .EBO files and all copies of the hidden file
litpath.lpt
Cradle your device and let it sync
Open Activesync
Open Add/Remove programs in activesync
Verify that the Microsoft Reader is not listed in the list of applications
If it is still listed go to Start | Run and type in regedit or regedit32 if
it is an NT based system.
Go to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE
Services\AppMgr\Apps
Delete the key for Microsoft Reader
Open Activesync
Open Add/Remove programs in activesync
Verify that the Microsoft Reader is not listed in the list of applications
Soft reset the device and recradle

Install the 2.4.1 version of the Reader (you will know that you have the
right version during install when you get to the licensing agreement - the
version is listed there)
Complete the install and DO NOT RESET at the end of the install
Attempt to activate directly after Reader installation. NOTE: Install only
to the Device/Default location. Failure to do so will result in further
issues.
If activation is successful perform a soft reset to register the fonts.

If activation is not sucessful please reply back and I will do my best to
assist you further.

Christine:

It worked!!!!!
Thank you for all your help!

One last question about the activation process:
Activation went smoothly when I went to the activation site. It sent the
secrep.cab file to my Treo and I installed it to the device easily. The only
thing that I was wondering about is that the progress bar on the activation
site went all the way to the end ( a full blue bar), but the message above it
never changed from "progress" to "successfully Activated" or something to
that effect. After waiting about 5min., I reloaded the page and it went back
to step 1 of the activation process. It was going to remove the previous
activation and install a new one. I cancelled it because I didn't know if
re-activating it would use up another of my 6 activations.
was my activation complete or was I supposed to see some type of "successful
Activation" message?

Thanks Again!
Jerold.
