Greetings all,

Will the add-in to Microsoft Word that converts a Word Doc to a Reader book
(.lit) work with the new Word? (Office 2007)

If now, can anyone say if plans are underway for Microsoft to releace a
verion of the add-in that will work with Office 2007?

Thanks,

- Stan

Hi Christine, sorry I am cross-posting as I hadn't found this when I put a
question on the Word posts...

I have just installed Office 2003 on a Vista Home Premium computer +
downloaded and installed RMR.exe to make .lit ebooks, which I have used (a
lot!) for the past 2 years (my computer was struck by lightning, so I have
had to redo everything... - good job I am the backup queen... [and they all
laughed... ]).

But I got no "lit/reader" icon on my Word toolbar. Rebooted, still nothing,
reinstalled, still nothing. Am I just being dumb + I have to find it and put
the button there? (Only done it once before, but I thought it put itself
there automatically). Or does it just not work in Vista? Reading the posts it
doesn't seem to work in Office 2007, but it did work in Office 2003.

Thanks, Laura

Check and see what level your security is. By default it is usually set to
high and doesn't allow add-ins to run. This usually causes the missing icon
in 2003. You can resolve this by either setting your security to a lower
bar or by adding the add-in to your list of allowed add-ins.

Let me know if this doesn't resolve your issue and I will do my best to
assist you further.

Hi Christine, yes I had found that bit and set it to medium, to no avail. I
have now set it to low, but no joy.

If I go to "templates and add-ins" and click "add", then go up one level, to
come out of "templates", then click on the folder "add-ins", then click
"files of type" at the bottom 'cos nothing shows up it says word add-ins are
".wll", but nothing shows up when you click this, so I click all files and
can then see "WordRMRComAddin.dll". If I try and load it I get "the document
template is not valid".

Is it in the wrong place or something? Or am I? I am pretty good at Word
normally, but I don't have a lot of experience of making macros, etc. which I
presume this is. As the only other way I know to make a .lit will cost me £25
for the software...

Thanks for your help, I will try and find the previous RMR.exe that I
downloaded onto the computer that got damaged, and see if that's any
different.

Hi

I seem to have the same problem I just got a new laptop running Windows
Vista Business and I have then installed Office 2000. After installing Word
Add in I cannot find it on the toolbar in Word. I would be interested to see
what you find as I have been using Word Add in successfully on an XP PC prior
to this.

Okay, never did see an answer to this, but I ran into the exact same
issue, it would not recognize the Reader add-in in the Add-ins menu.
I tinkered around with this and eventually got it to work. The
Microsoft RMR FAQ on the Reader site did point in the right
direction. First, enable the Com Add-ins menu by going to the Tools
menu, then select Customize. Select the Tools item in the Category
list, then drag the COM add-ins item to the Word toolbar. Select the
COM add-ins item, and there, the Read in Microsoft Reader object. The
reader icon now shows up in the toolbar, and I'm now finally able to
create reader e-books in Vista.

For reference, I'm running Word 2002 on Vista Home Premium. Now if I
can only get it to work with Word 2007.
