Microsoft Activation Server is unavailable
Microsoft Activation Server is offline for regular maintenance or upgrade, or it >may have technical difficulties now. Please try activating again later.
I've been getting this yesterday and today. Does anyone know if the server
is really down, or if there's something else wrong?

I came here to ask the exact same question - so while a sample size of 2 is
hardly definitive it does suggest that the server really is down. I thought
the problem could be my location in Kuwait but unless you're here as well
that's no longer likely.

Happening for me too here in New Zealand. It's been a problem for the
last couple of days. Using Win XP with SP3...wonder if that might be a
problem?

Just had another attempt, and it finally worked. Either the activation
server was broken and is finally working again, or the fact that I've
just shifted my computer to another site with a different ISP could be
relevant.

Still happening to me! This is the millionth time I've asked! I need
to be able to get my books I paid for! For no apparent reason my
"digital signature" changed or something and I can't open up my books
on my XP machine. I can open them up on my Vista machine. I need to
get them at both machines and it says I have too many activations
which is absolutely absurd. I only have two! Usually when I try to
submit this is says problem with server or try again later or some
nonsense. Does anybody know how to get Microsoft to listen? I can't
find an email or a phone number or anything! Thanks a ton!

When you attempt that activation there should be a link to request extra
quota.

I usually go through that process and wait a few days and typically I can
reactivate then :)
