I am sure this has been asked before - sorry.

I had accumulated a number of ebooks - all of them legal. I got them
mostly for use in my iPaq, but stopped reading them for a long time. I
also did not read them on my PC.

I got a new cell phone with reader capability. I downloaded all my
ebooks to the cell and re-activated both my cell and PC - everything
seems to work OK.

But I can only open about a third of the books. The rest just give the
dreaded "This copy of the Microsoft Reader cannot open this title..."
error.

I tried again re-activating both and no change. The problem occurs on
both the PC and the cell - either the books read on both OK, or on
neither. But since some books DO open OK, I assume that the
installations and activations are OK.

Help appreciated.

Bob,

Is it possible that you purchased the books that don't open with another
older account? In order to keep access to your books you need to activate
with the same passport id as you purchased the title with.

Hi Christine. To my knowledge, I have only ever had one passport
account. But the symptoms do sound like that.

Some of the titles were books I downloaded from the MS website -
summer reading series, if I recall. None of those work now, but did
for a long time.

Any other ideas? Can you tell by looking at the file somehow what
passport it was purchased for? Is there a way to look on the MS
website for a list of passports I might have had?

Thanks, Bob

Christine, I am sure you are busy and hear this same type of issue
every day, but I sure could use some help and you haven't replied to
my last post.

As I said, I don't believe that I used a different account, but how do
I tell?

As some of the books are older, does permission to read them time out?
As I said, many of the books in question came from the MS Summer
Reading series a few years ago and can't be re-downloaded.

Any pointer to help get me started fixing the problem would be
appreciated.

Thank you, Bob

Bob,

Books shouldn't expire. They should be good as long as you own the book.

You might try contacting the passport folks to see if they have a record of
previous accounts with them. If that doesn't work please contact me offline
at ***@comcast.net and I will see if I can track down your
information on our backend server.

Sincerely,
