MS reader on Vista Business
(too old to reply)

Since I can't get any replies to my other email ..

IS reader really supposed to work on Vista Business on a tablet pc? I know
MS has information relevant to Vista on the activation pages, but even as
the activation succeeds, I cannot read books purchased for MS Reader. It
keeps saying I have to redo the activation. I have tried following an
earlier post, deleting litpath file and some other files with an extension I
don't remember atm, to no avail.

Help? :(

Micke,

Sorry if your replies have gone unanswered. I do my best to answer each
email as quickly as possible.

The Reader should work on Vista Business. However, when you go to the
activation website you will notice that there is a special note in red type
for all Vista users. There are special steps that need to be taken in order
for Vista to accept the activation process. I have taken the liberty to
copy these instructions here -

If you are running Microsoft Reader on Windows Vista® operating system,
please follow the instructions below to activate

Select the URL below, right-click and select copy
http://das.microsoft.com/activate/en-us/default.asp
In the Start Menu, click on All Programs, right-click on Internet Explorer
icon and select Run As Administrator
Click Allow if you get a User Account Control credential prompt (if you are
not running as local administrator, you may be prompted to enter
administrator credentials)
Right-click in the address bar and paste the URL. Press enter
Now click the "Sign In" button to begin the activation process

Note: After Microsoft Reader activation is completed, please close the
elevated Internet Explorer window.

If you continue to have issues after attempting to activate using these
steps please reply back and I will do my best to assist you further.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

I did these steps. Basically, it involves running IE as administrator. Yes,
I've done that (everything that it says). My first mail said so, sorry if I
forgot to mention it in the second :/

Just to be clear, I saw an earlier post from you about deleting litpath.lth
and some .obe (was it?) files, and I did that, too. Even though this is not
something you put in a cradle ;)

Ok, it's working now. Uninstalling, *deleting all files*, and then
reinstalling the reader did the trick. Wonder why I didn't think of that
earlier.

Thanks,
/Micke

Hello msreadergirl,

Sorry I raise this question again. But once you activate Reader in XP or
Vista, can you deactivate it to transfer it to another computer? I ask this
because I reformat my computer occasionally and this counts towards my
device limit.

Thank you a ton!

Unfortunately, no, you can't deactivate. You can however, request
additional quota for your account. You can do this by going here -
http://das.microsoft.com/activate/en-us/extraDefault.asp. These requests
are evaluated nightly. If you have any further questions please reply back
and I will do my best to answer your questions.
