Discussion:
WM6 version of MS Reader
(too old to reply)

Copying a post I made in the eBook section since it seems to make more sense
here...

From what I understand, there is no version of MS Reader for Windows Mobile
v. 6.0. Is this a true statement? Has Microsoft dropped support for Reader
for new versions of Windows?

I just purchased a new WM 6.0 device (T-Mobile Dash) and have been happy
with it, but I looked ONLY at WM devices exclusively because of MS Reader.

Luckily, I don't buy DRM products, and I can get Mobipocket versions of all
the books I've purchased (thank you, Baen.com and Webscriptions.net!), but
I'm not really getting good vibes from Microsoft when they apparently stop
supporting a product that's required to use things you've already purchased...

Also, I've noticed that some people have said that they got version Reader
v. 2.4.1 to work on WM 6.0... how did you do that? If it will run without
activation, that's fine with me, because I don't have any DRM locked books.

AtlPatrick,

The 2.4.1 version of Microsoft Reader does work for WM 6.0. That said, as
with previous versions, it is limited to WM Standard and not the Smartphone
version . The T-Mobile dash falls into the Smartphone class of devices.
The one identifying feature between the two is the touch screen. Smartphone
does not have this type of screen.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

Does this mean that v2.4.1 WILL work on my AT&T Tilt, which is a Windows
Mobile 6 smartphone with a touchscreen?

Jpaterjr,

This should work, but some OEM's have locked their devices with security
levels that do not allow the installation without an upgraded security
certificate - This is mostly on the Professional edition of the OS. The
majority of the touchscreen WM 6.0 devices are compatible with Reader.

If you run into problems please reply back and I will be happy to help where
I can.

Hi MSReaderGirl,

If I have a WM6 Professional device, how can I activate it? I have lots of
good DRM-ed eBooks which I really love to read.

Looking forward to hear from you as soon as possible.

Best regards,
Alex

I have a WM6 Pro device (Samsung i760
0. I had the previous release of Microsoft reader installed....I
uninstalled it due to the new upgraded version being available. I went
through the new release install (2.4.1) several times with activation
reported as being successful. Although, after installation and multiple
resets, I am unable to get the Microsoft Reader to activate. Hence,
everytime I go to open a book in my library, I get the message "You need to
update the digital security......" I reference the directed website but
without success.

Looking for any help on installing or refreshing my device

Installing that "new" version was a mistake since there is not a new version.

The updated date posted on the site reflects changes to the page not the software.

Unless I'm mistaken Reader hasn't been updated for Windows or Windows Mobile since around 2005.

They really need to work on it.

Heck I'd be willing and I'm already a contract employee on campus at MGS.

Where did you install the activation files to? The device or your storage

I have a Sprint Mogul, running Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. I was able to
install and received a message saying the activation was successful.
However, when I go to open a book that I've downloaded, I get a
message that says, "This copy of the Microsoft Reaser cannot open this
title. You may not have the appropriate rights for viewing this
content. If you are the rightful owner of this title, please try
reactivating your Microsoft Reader. "

I have Reader installed to the device, not the storage card. I
purchased the books that I'm trying to open and can successfully open
them on my desktop. I have also, uninstalled and reinstalled as well
as reactiviated Reader multiple times.

Any suggestions?

I have a WM6 device. I have installed and activated Reader. I have been

I'm another one with problems activating MS Reader 2.4.1 on my HP 211
using WM6 and Vista 64bit.

I actually have 2 problems. The passport account that I activated
some ebooks is no longer recognized for logging in. The ISP
disappeared about 5 years ago, but I kept a copy of the login
information. It isn't recognized. However, I can't check the password
by asking for it to be sent by email, as the account is long gone. I
*think* I edited the account information a few years ago to reflect a
working email address.

Once I log in using the new account, I'm unable to activate my HP 211
WM6 in Vista 64-bit. I get this error:

You must install the Activation ActiveX control before you can

I think I will need your help. I downloaded the 2.4.1 version and when tryed
to install it I got the "...is not a valid Pocket PC aplication" I have an
AT&T treo 750, WM6.
Thanks.

AtlPatrick,
The 2.4.1 version of Microsoft Reader does work for WM 6.0.

I have installed the 2.4.1 version of Microsoft Reader for pocket pc and was
able to activate for both the pc and pocket pc version. Now when I try to
read an msreader file it starts ms reader then never loads but my HP ipaq 110
w. Mobile 6 still says its a running program. Then when I select to END TASk
it still shows on my list of running programs afterwards and wont END. I am
unable to delete the file I'm trying to read to fix the issue because it
somehow still running. Turning off the device does not stop the issue and
continues to hangup my programs. Help?

Spifficus,

Did you try soft resetting the device? On HP devices there is usually a
little hole somewhere on the device where you can put the stylus to soft
reset the device (essentially a reboot). This might do the trick. Does
this happen with any of your other applications?

THANKYOU! Yes, the soft reboot did the trick - it was what I hadn't done,
mostly due to worry of a negaive effect. MS Reader was only program having
difficulty besides the device lagging, why it was so puzzling.
